Emmett’s Duck-a-Thon

Rundle College student Emmett Rogers has been collecting rubber ducks for years. He loves ducks so much that a room in his home has been transformed into “Duck City”, where more than 300 ducks are on display.

“After looking at my collection, I realized they could do more than just sit around my basement. They could help people.”

Inspired by the famous Chicago Ducky Derby, the fifth-grade student used his supersized flock to raise funds for the Rundle Academy Building Futures campaign. Emmett rented out his collection of over 300 ducks to fellow students, staff, and faculty. A $5 donation earned a place in the race, with the demand so high that more ducks were procured.

In total, 339 ducks were released down a slip-and-slide outside the Rundle College Collett Building on May 29. Between the ducks purchased and additional donations, Emmett’s Duck-a-Thon raised $1,750 toward the Rundle Academy expansion project.

This sort of event is a true testament to the service leadership that runs deep across Rundle Schools, and proves that no idea is too small or quirky to help make a difference.
