Brick by Brick: When ‘Small’ Gifts Create Big Change

When considering the scale of building a new school, it can be tempting to believe that only the largest gifts make a difference. Yet at Rundle Academy, our experience tells a different story. Small gifts that are heartfelt, personal, and often given as a gesture of gratitude or hope, are the heartbeat of our Building Futures campaign. They represent a collective belief in our mission and a shared commitment to ensuring every student has the tools, spaces, and opportunities to thrive.

This past year alone, these modest contributions added up to nearly $200,000 in one-time gifts. This is an extraordinary sum when you remember that each individual donation may have been the price of a lunch out, a week’s coffee, or a family’s thoughtful decision to prioritize education. Together, these gifts are shaping our campus in tangible ways, funding the construction of four new classrooms and an innovative science lab. Every dollar given, no matter its size, becomes part of something much larger. It becomes part of a legacy of learning, innovation, and inclusion.

The power of these collective gifts is more than financial. It’s a statement of community. When families, alumni, staff, and friends of Rundle Academy join together, they create a ripple effect of generosity and possibility. An anonymous monthly donor recently shared that, “I don’t have a lot of money to give all at once. But I believe in this campaign, I believe in Rundle Academy and I know that my $50 every month will add up over time, and will have an impact. Especially when it’s paired with gifts of similar size and intention.

As we continue our Building Futures campaign, we invite every member of our community to take part. A small gift today becomes a brick in a classroom wall, a microscope in a lab, or a book in a student’s hands tomorrow.

Together, we are proving that the power of many small acts of generosity can transform our school and, most importantly, open doors for the students who call Rundle Academy home.
